Budgeting, Financial Advice

Shopping for groceries and household products can get expensive, although there are ways to prevent your bill from going beyond your budget. Shopping for generic products can save you a ton of money, and it’s something to keep in mind while shopping. Just because products are generic does not meant they are not quality products. Here’s a list of products you should be buying in generic versions if you wish to save some money on your everyday bills:

Acne Cleanser

Acne cleanser can be incredibly expensive. You can spend close to $10 dollars in some stores and up to about $100 in brand name stores! You can save some serious cash by opting to buy CVS or other store brand cleansers. These can cost anywhere from $2 to $8, depending on your skin’s needs and the quality of the product itself. These products contain the same active ingredients as the name-brand products, therefore they are just as good.

Bread

Bread is a common household food item, and it’s used in so many ways. If you are in a large family, it’s hard to keep it in stock – plus, the good stuff can add up on the grocery bill. Bread is bread, no matter who makes it. Buying the store-brand bread can save you $1 or $2 each time you buy, and you won’t even taste the difference. Your only concern about any bread should be if it has mold, so check it before you buy it!

Medication

Whether it is medication for a prescription or medication you can buy from the shelves, you don’t need to spend more than you have to. Like generic acne cleanser, generic medication has the same active ingredients as the name-brand products. It will help you feel better, and it will ease the stress of having to pay too much.

Loofahs

Loofahs are a common bathing product for many families. They can range anywhere from $1 to over $20. There is no reason to be paying that much for a bath product that doesn’t last more than a couple of weeks. Even if the loofah doesn’t fall apart, it should be replaced frequently since it holds dead skin, dirt and bacteria in the center of it. Therefore you shouldn’t splurge on this item when you will be replacing it every few weeks. Generic brand loofahs are $1 or $2.

Cheese

There are so many different brands of cheese on the market. For common cheese products like mozzarella cheese, you can buy the generic brands opposed to the name brands. The cheese tastes exactly the same. Like all dairy products, you only need to check the expiration date before purchasing the product. Generic cheese products can save you a couple of dollars, and it will add up on that pricey grocery bill after a while.
